Cancer of Unknown Primary – Benign Disease

7% of patients referred to the CUP service are found not to have cancer after comprehensive investigations. Anecdotally, these patients often have multiple investigations and live for some time with a possible diagnosis of cancer. We would like to define this group within our CUP BioBank database and identify patterns, or biomarkers, which may help us decide how we might manage this group in the future.

RCC – Active Surveillance. Approximately 10% of patients with metastatic renal call carcinoma can be managed expectantly with active surveillance, with systemic treatment started when there is significant radiological progression of disease and/or symptoms. This reduces patients exposure to systemic therapies, improving quality of life, but does not impact on treatment outcomes down the line. We are establishing an RCC database and would like to identify and define these patients in order to develop management guidelines

Edinburgh Cancer Immunology Research Network

Collaborative network bringing together those involved or interested in cancer
immunology and the tumour microenvironment throughout Edinburgh, whichever
institute they work in.

The immunology of human and animal cancer is an exciting and rapidly‑expanding
field, which is changing our understanding and treatment of cancer. Edinburgh
is an emerging centre of excellence for cancer immunology and immunotherapy
and the Edinburgh Cancer Immunology Research Network is a friendly and
inclusive network connecting researchers (and potential researchers) from
across the university to support discussion & collaboration (locally and
externally).
